ms dos client dispays long filenames

MS-DOS Client don't dispays long filenames

Hi
I've got this strange problem. If I connect with a dos-client to a networkshare on a windows 2003 server with net use, the DIR command shows only 8.3 files. files with longer names are invisible. the same with copy and xcopy, its like the files don't exists. I have two servers with equal local security settings and the same services settings.

MSDOS shouldn't display long filenames... should it? :op
Say for example in Windows I wanted to get to C:\Windows\Log.txt, I would simply type it in. However, with MSDOS (and Windows as well), you have to truncate it down to 6 letters and then a ~1 - so that it would then be C:\WINDOW~1\Log.txt.
Hope that makes sense... and I hope that's right! If not, please someone correct me :o) MSDOS has been around longer than I've been alive!!
